Betty Mildred (Bryant) Newcomer

Age 81 of Mt. Lebanon, formerly of Upper. St. Clair, died Friday afternoon, October 21, 2016.  Beloved wife of Robert (Bob) P. Newcomer, Jr. for 63 years.  Dear mother of Sharon (Paul) Curry, Bob Newcomer III, Tracey (Joe) Malick, and Lisa Newcomer; cherished grandmother of Tessa (Ronee) Garland, Vincent Curry, Bob Newcomer IV, Sara Newcomer and Rachel Malick.  Great Grandmother of Michael Newcomer and Rowan Garland.  Betty was preceded in death by her brother James Bryant and sister-in-law Shirlene Bryant of Fleming, Ga.  She is survived by a brother John (Katherine) Bryant of Griffin, GA.  Born in Emmanuel County, GA, Betty graduated from Midville High School and Draughns Business School in Augusta, GA. Betty worked in Augusta as a Secretary.  Betty’s future husband Bob, a sergeant, was editor of the Post Newspaper at nearby Camp Gordon.  They met in Augusta at a dance sponsored by the YWCA.  In November, 1953 they were married at the Midville Methodist Church.  They moved to Pittsburgh and started their life together in Bob’s hometown of Brentwood.  Betty worked as a Secretary at U.S. Steel headquarters in Pittsburgh, and then became a homemaker while raising her four children.  She worked with her husband until they both retired in 2005.  During retirement Betty enjoyed spending time with family, cruising, doing crossword puzzles, crocheting, and baking.  Family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 pm  on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Southminster Presbyterian Church 799 Washington Road Pgh, Pa 15228  with a Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m., followed by refreshments in Fellowship Hall. Private interment at The National Cemetery Of The Alleghenies. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southminster Presbyterian Church or Family Hospice 50 Moffett St. Pgh, Pa 15243
