On Saturday, February 11, 2017, Elizabeth “Billie” (Crowley) Woodland, 90 entered her eternal peace with praises to God and messages of love on her lips. Born 1926 of Charles and Genevieve Crowley, Newburyport, MA, Billie was beloved wife of the late Donald J Woodland. They had five children: the late Sheila McClain (Scott); Winifred; Bernard (Victoria) of Cary, NC; Teresa, recently of Beijing; and Genevieve Frances of Cleveland, OH. Devoted Grandmother to Amanda and Abigail McClain; Nadya, Sophia, Kaili, and Kaishang Woodland. Sister of Mary Crowley Leary (Newburyport and Marco Island) and the late Charles M. Crowley Jr and Genevieve M. Crowley. Billie and Donald were founding members of St. Winifred’s Church in Mt. Lebanon. For more than four decades, they walked through life with seven Marriage Encounter couples. She was an avid hiker, active in the AYH, and led the Ramblers. Billie trained as a nurse and teacher: St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing (1948), Bachelor of Nursing from Boston College (1952), Master of Nursing Education Boston University (1956). She taught several generations of Pittsburgh nurses, first as a founding instructor in the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing (1954-1963). Then, after having five kids, she taught Anatomy and Physiology at Duquesne University (1972-1976) and Microbiology at CCAC (1976-1993). Friends will be welcomed at LAUGHLIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL 222 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon THURSDAY 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Winifred Church Friday morning at 10.
