Flora R. Rathburn

79, of Providence Point, formerly of South Fayette, died peacefully of congestive heart failure, on Wednesday May 25, 2016. Devoted mother of David R. Rathburn (Jayne), Ralph D. Rathburn (Charlie Watanabe) and Karen P. Rathburn (Peter Schepis); loving  grandmother of Mark D. Rathburn, Tyler C. Rathburn, Jillian S. Schepis, Haley E. Schepis and the late Katherine Schepis; sister of H. Marlin Rice (Dawna), Leonard Rice (Kelley), the late Aldean Jones and the late Arletta “Jackie” Coffman; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Flora was a long-time newspaper editor with the Pittsburgh Press, the Detroit News and the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Viewing hours have been omitted. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service at 1:30 PM on Sunday, June 12 at Providence Point, 500 Providence Point Blvd, Pittsburgh (Scott Twp.), PA 15243. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Flora Rathburn Memorial Fund in the Department of Communication, c/o University of Pittsburgh, Office of Institutional Advancement, 128 North Craig Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15260 or to the American Heart Association.
