Welcome to the memorial page for

Genevieve (Charnesky) Sparvero

May 9, 1913 ~ December 14, 2017 (age 104) 104 Years Old

104 years young, passed peacefully in her sleep on Thursday,  December 14, 2017. She was the much-loved Mom, Gram, or Great Gram who was perhaps best known for her weekly Sunday “family dinners.” Genevieve was a Polish woman who mastered the art of Italian cooking, along the way teaching three generations how to make her unbelievable raviolis from scratch. Genevieve was married 62 years to the late Peter Sparvero. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Rosemary Sparvero; grandchildren Carol Matt (Dan), John Sparvero (Gina), Dan Sparvero (Liz), Mary Lynn Gahr (the late J.J. Gahr), and Kathy Downing (Bruce); and seven great-grandchildren. She is the sister of the late Virginia Linton, Felix, John and Walter Charnesky and is survived by many nieces and nephews. Genevieve was devoted to her family and will always be remembered by her Grandchildren, who accompanied her on Tuesday downtown bus trips. Gram was accomplished at the art of window shopping but rarely bought anything. She enjoyed bowling and bingo and was an avid watcher of Days of Our Lives, Wheel of Fortune and Dancing with the Stars. She loved the ocean, but never went into the water deeper than her ankles. There will be no viewing. All are welcome to attend her Funeral Mass on Monday, December 18th at 10:00 am at SS. Simon and Jude church, 1607 Greentree Road, Scott Township (Friends, please meet at church).  Interment will follow in Holy Souls Cemetery. As a tribute to Genevieve, the family suggests that you take time from the busyness of the season to truly enjoy your family’s holiday meal, even the dysfunctional parts, with a smile and a kind word for all, just as Genevieve would. Genevieve had strong faith and leaves with no regrets. She lived a long life, and brought happiness to so many along the way. Farewell to an amazing Mom/Gram/Great Gram!
