92, formerly of Newton Falls, Ohio, passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 2, 2016 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was born in Newton Falls on December 12, 1923 to the late George L. Lyon, Sr. and Ada Evelyn Call Lyon. Husband and best friend for 56 years of the late Doris E. Smith Lyon. Supportive father of George L. Lyon III (Judy) of Casa Grande, AZ and Eileen L. Moore (Ed) of Pittsburgh. Proud Grandpa of Christine Boren (Mark), TX; Stephen  Lyon (Tiffany) of CA; Benjamin E. Moore of Argentina and Elizabeth Moore (fiancé Kevin Hartbauer) of Pittsburgh. Loving Great Grandpa of Justin Curtis (Meghan) of TX and Brittney Boren of TX. Brother of the late Harriet Gwinnup (late Lloyd). Brother-in-law of Margaret Fortner Smith (late Homer),  the late Ila Smith Sherman and the late Marilu Smith Fisher Mercer (the late Walt). Uncle and Great-uncle to the Gwinnup, Sherman, Smith  and Fisher clans. George was a member of the Greatest Generation, serving in the Army during WWII in the African, French, and German theaters and was awarded three bronze stars for his service. He was a former Fire Chief for the Newton Falls Volunteer Fire Dept., a fifty plus year choir member of First Christian Church, lifetime member of the Newton Falls American Legion Post 236, and retired from CSX Corporation. A memorial service will be held at The First Christian Church of Newton Falls on Saturday July 23, at 11:00AM. Visitation with family will be one hour prior to the memorial.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the First Christian Church of Newton Falls, 17 N.
