Kenton E. McElhattanAugust 2, 1922 ~ November 23, 2017 (age 95)
Age 95, of Providence Point, formerly of Mt. Lebanon, on Thursday, November 23, 2017. Beloved husband for 71 years of Florence (Ditty) McElhattan, devoted father of Kent D. (Martha) McElhattan and Elaine L. (the late Dr. Thomas) Bonoma; loving grandfather of Justin, Josh, Erin, Tom, Matthew, Jonathan and Benjamin; great-grandfather of fourteen; brother of Dr. Glenn R. McElhattan, Lucille Lineman, Lois Pierce and Marilyn Greer; also survived by nieces and nephews. Kenton was born and raised in Knox, PA, Clarion County and was a proud Army Air Corp Sergeant. His collegiate studies included accounting, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, pre-med and management. Kenton was a 33 Degree Mason, a member of the Duquesne Club and St. Clair Country Club. His association included the American Tree Farmers, Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy, Life Member of Society of Mining Engineers and Director Emeritus of National Mining Association. In addition, Mr. McElhattan taught part-time a course in mining methods at Penn State, was the author of several books and had several patents in mining machinery and methods. Kenton was the Vice-President of Sales with Joy Manufacturing Co. from 1959 until 1970 at which time he became President, Chairman and CEO of National Mine Service Co. a NYSE stock exchange company headquartered in Pittsburgh. Eventually in 1985 he co-founded with his son Kent Industrial Scientific Corporation and was Chairman until retiring in 2010. Friends will be welcomed at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon, Sunday afternoon from 2:00 until 5:00 o’clock. A Celebration of Life service will be held in Beverly Heights Presbyterian Church, 1207 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, Monday morning at 11 o’clock. Interment in Mount Lebanon Cemetery will be private. If desired, memorials may be made to Children’s Dyslexia Center, 110 East Lincoln Avenue, New Castle, PA 16101.
