Marlene (Haller) Antypas

age 84, of Mt. Lebanon, on Sunday, July 9, 2017. Dedicated and faithful wife for 53 years of the late Philip Antypas M.D.; devoted mother of David of Brentwood, TN, Nancy a resident of Allegheny Valley School, Ramzi of Punta Gorda, FL and Melina Antypas of Mt. Lebanon; loving grandmother of Philip, Nayla, Ramzi and Laila. Marlene was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh Presbyterian School of Nursing in Oakland where she met and eventually married Philip, a plastic surgery resident. They lived the first 20 years of their married life in Beirut, Lebanon and raised their family there. The family returned to the United States in the mid-70’s and Marlene returned to Presby Hospital to work as a nurse on the kidney transplant unit. Her time in Lebanon positioned her well to act as translator for patients coming from Arab nations to Presby for kidney transplants. She was inherently a kind and gentle soul, was calm, steady and displayed a quiet, steely strength during the toughest of times. Marlene was an avid reader, and lover of all things chocolate, lived a faithful and adventurous life. She was deeply compassionate and believed in serving people and giving back; she served others in need with dignity and approached caregiving with a tender touch. She will be forever missed. Friends will be welcomed at the LAUGHLIN CREMATION & FUNERAL TRIBUTES, 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, THURSDAY from 4- until 7 PM. Services will be held in MOUNT LEBANON UNITED LUTHERAN CHURCH, 975 Washington Road, Friday morning at 11:30. Interment will be private.
