Virginia Kirk (Knerr) Smith

Passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at home. Born in Norristown, PA on January 19, 1921, she was a 1939 graduate of Norristown High School and received her bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary in 1943, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Virginia was a member of Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church where she was past-president of the Home Builders Class and the United Methodist Women. She was a beloved Girl Scout Leader of Troop #249 for 15 years; a member of South Hills College Club, Valley Forge Chapter of the DAR, Pittsburgh Chi Omega Association where she was outstanding Alumni in 1970. Devoted daughter of the late Walter A. and Edith Knerr; beloved wife of the late William M. Smith, Sr.; loving mother of Katharine S. (John) Fyfe of Lansdale, PA, Cynthia S. Finniss of Morgantown, WV and William M. Smith, Jr. (Patricia) of Mt. Lebanon, PA; also survived by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Family plans no public viewing. All are welcomed to attend her Memorial Service in Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, 3319 West Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15216, Wednesday afternoon, June 1 at 2:00 o’clock. Family will receive friends following the service. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church Food Bank or to the  Anne Coughenour Memorial Campership Fund, c/o Girl Scouts of Western PA, 30 Isabella Street, Suite 107, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
