William Henry Obituary

William Lawrence Henry, born on April 13, 1925 in Worcester, Massachusetts, to the late Lawrence and Jenny Henry, passed away at age 92 on April 8, 2018 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Bill attended North High in Worcester, Mass. where he played football and basketball. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served on the USS Nashville as a Seaman first class.  He was en route to Asia when the U.S. dropped atomic bombs to end the war. Bill attended Harvard College after the war and was captain of both the football and basketball teams, graduating in 1950 with a degree in Political Science. He married the love of his life Mary (Maureen) Healy in 1950. 67 years! Bill graduated from Harvard Business School in 1952 and began a distinguished career with Gulf Oil Corp in Tulsa, OK. He later moved to corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA and retired as the senior executive vice president at Gulf Oil Corp. He was the Chairman of the Port Authority of Allegheny County and was a board member of Project Hope. Bill is survived by sons William Jr. and Michael, daughter Eileen; grandchildren Allison, Erin, Kevin, and four great grandchildren, Daniel Gonzalez, Avery Gonzalez, Jacob Glanzmann and Neila Jane Henry; brother of Neil of Mendham, NJ and preceded in death by his sister Jane Albert. Bill had many hobbies and interests including golf, tennis, bridge, poker, competitive shooting, hunting, music, cars, and a good party but his favorite activity was spending time with his family. God bless W.L. Henry. Bill, Dad, Papa, Grand Papa Henry. Family and friends will be received at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes 222 Washington Road Mt. Lebanon on Wednesday from 4 until time of a Rosary Service at 5:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Bernard Church on Thursday at 11:30 AM. Interment to follow in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 1100 Liberty Ave. Suite E-201 Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
