Welcome to the memorial page for

William K. Kinner

June 4, 1922 ~ April 27, 2015 (age 92) 92 Years Old

William Kenneth Kinner, of Mt. Lebanon, PA, died on April 27 following a short illness. Bill was born June 4, 1922 on Neville Island to Katherine Callahan Kinner and Kenneth Cole Kinner and was predeceased by his sister Betty Jane. He graduated from Sto-Rox High School and entered Westminster College where his studies were interrupted by the US entry into World War II. Bill enlisted as an officer with the Naval Air Force and became a flight instructor in Florida for the duration of the war; his many students included baseball players Ted Williams and Bob Kennedy. At the end of World War II, he resumed his studies at Westminster; following graduation, he combined his love of space and flight with a writing career, working for several Pittsburgh companies before a 25-year career at Alcoa where he managed the Public Relations department. A successful later-life freelance career included Penton Publishing and technical writing for the nuclear power industry. Bill was the beloved husband of Marguerite Guthrie Kinner from 1950 until her death in 2012. He is survived by daughters Eileen Kinner (Michael Flynn) and Ann Kinner Murray, son-in-law John Murray and grandchildren Emily Paus, Katherine Paus and Daniel Flynn. He was devoted to his daughters and grandchildren; his family brought him great joy throughout his life, and in turn, he inspired them with his gentle humor to imagine, live all dreams, overcome adversity, and do the right thing. Friends  will be welcomed at Laughlin Memorial Chapel, Inc., 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon Friday, May 1 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 noon; funeral services follow. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Southminster Presbyterian Church, info@spchurch.org
