John Christopher Mucha

Age 63, of Mount Lebanon, unexpectedly on Thursday, January 5, 2023. Devoted son of the late Joseph C. and Bette (Blank) Mucha; beloved husband for 33 years of Anne (Sedley) Mucha; proud father of Sarah and Joseph (Molli) Mucha; younger brother of Anne (Mucha) Bradel; son-in-law of James R. and Rosemary (Siler) Sedley; uncle of Chris and Heather Bradel;  Andrew and Alex Sedley; also survived by many beloved cousins and his grand-cat, Leia. John was a life-long resident of Mt. Lebanon who dedicated his life to the betterment of his community. He graduated from Duequesne University in 1982 then spent the first part of his career in banking. A devoted family man, he took a step back from his career to stay at home to care for his children. He coached all of their youth-sports teams including baseball, softball and basketball. He also worked tirelessly behind the scenes for his children's youth hockey programs. Once his children graduated, he continued to work for youth hockey and became the Commissioner of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL) in 2019. He oversaw fifty-seven hockey clubs, lead high school hockey through a global pandemic, and helped create a girl's high school hockey league.  Known for his boisterous personality and sense of humor, he treated everyone with respect and fairness. He loved Pittsburgh sports and could often be found cheering on the Penguins at PPG Paints Arena. He and his wife, Anne, enjoyed traveling across the country to places like Alaska, New York, Nashville and The Grand Canyon. Above all, though, he loved his family - playing board games, hosting family meals and just spending time together. Friends will be welcomed at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon on Friday, January 13th 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-800p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Bernard Church (St. Michael the Archangel Parish) on Saturday morning at 10 o’clock (Everyone Please Meet at Church). Interment in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, will be Private. In Lieu of Flowers, please consider  memorials to Meals on Wheels of Southwestern Pennsylvania or Mighty Penguins Sled Hockey.
