Mary Daly Obituary

93 of Mt. Lebanon, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was greeted in Heaven by her husband of 50 plus years, Edward Joseph Daly, who got there on February 28, 2012. He’s had 10 plus years to get the other angels ready for her arrival…organizing things, writing notes, telling stories about her, checking to see if anyone knew when she’d arrive, etc. We’re sure he greeted her with that loving and prideful look in his eyes that he always had when she’d gracefully descend the stairs all dressed up and looking “fancy” for a night out, while their three urchin sons Ed, Jack and Dan and beautiful daughter Betsy would be on the landing ooh’ing and awe’ing and then snickering when he kissed her.

Mary worked for the Alcoa Corporation, Pittsburgh PA as a receptionist and loved her time there. Mary also enjoyed teaching mostly better-behaved kids than her 3 urchin sons at St. James and St. Sylvester’s Catholic School and substitute taught at St. Bernard’s and St. Thomas Moore.  After staying home and raising her 4 children, Mary proudly sold Worldbook Encyclopedia and worked at Chartiers Mental Health Clinic, Bridgeville PA.

Mary was a member of the Pittsburgh Sweet Adelines singing group and taught dance at Arthur Murray Dance Studio. Singing and dancing were a passion of Marys. She and Ed most likely are jitterbugging away together again!  Mary was a member of the Christian Mothers and a board member of Keynotes of Mt. Lebanon and Mt. Lebanon Republic Women.  Mary enjoyed attending Music for Mt. Lebanon with Ed. Mary also volunteered for Meals on Wheels (usually with Dan in tow… sliding back and forth in the backseat as she drove). Mary also helped preparing apple pies for the St. Bernard’s annual pie sale.

We’re pretty sure that this morning big Ed was hollering “Mary!” because he misplaced something and all the angels in Heaven rolled their eyes and chuckled. Heaven will never be the same…it will be better…except maybe for the occasional booming “Mary!” that we all have missed for the past 10 years.

Ed’s wife, Anne was her primary caregiver for the past 9 years in their home in Lincoln, NE…and is proof that there are angels on Earth.

Mary is survived by her devoted children Ed (Anne) Daly, III of Lincoln, NE, Betsy Daly Eglberger of Naples, FL, Jack (Metka) Daly of Delray Beach, FL, and Dan (Linda) Daly of Peters Township; and her grandchildren Chloe (Austin) Leighty, Madeline, Alexander (Chelsey), Bérénice, Joey, Danny, James, Autumn, Luke, Anna and Tommy as well as her sister Joanne Puharic of Delaware.  Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Daly Jr., her brother, Bob and sister in law, Tess, brother, Jack, Monsignor Jim Shanahan and brother in law, Don Puharic.
