It is a tough battle confronting pneumonia, a stroke, and a heart attack at the same time. Theodore Henry Shiff III died on 11/16/21, at the age of 90, having led a life worthy of the descriptor epic. Unwanted, he more or less raised himself, living in various relatives' homes, and boarding schools across the country. He hitchhiked every day to attend a better high school, worked the midwest wheat harvest to attend the U of Illinois, and then Michigan Law School. He started with J&L Steel, but the entrepreneurial spirit ran deep, so he eventually bought and ran The Coin Collector, which eventually became Cybercoins.net, now run by his kids Blaine, Brad, and Heather. But more importantly, he raised a family more loving than the one he had been given. He and Grandma (Nancy) were the original cutest couple, perfectly complementary up to Grandma Nancy's passing after 51 years of marriage. In addition to his 3 kids, Grandpa leaves behind 11 grandkids, and 2 great-grandkids.
Grandpa never fully retired, and didn't really count as elderly since he was always up for whatever we were doing as a family: camping, hiking, working at the store, traveling to conventions, shopping at Costco, coming to brunch, or giving rides. He continued to play competitive chess up until his death, and was an avid treadmiller/walker. He didn't complain or ask for special accommodations for his age. He is timeless and one of the gang.
We miss you, Grandpa. And we'll wait patiently in hopes of being together again.
