Yvonne Amos Obituary

Yvonne “Bonnie” Amos passed away peacefully at Providence Point in Scott Township, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, October 17, 2020, after a long brave battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Fairmont, West Virginia, in 1927, the youngest child of Lonnie and Ollie Richards. She grew up on her family’s farm with her beloved sister Darlie and three older brothers Dale, Leroy, and Donald. After completing high school, she graduated Fairmont State College where she was the drum majorette for the marching band and editor of the yearbook. Interested in the theater and broadcasting, she became a news announcer at local station WMMN. At that time, she met her future husband, Harold R. Amos to whom she was married for 57 years. Harold’s job took them to the Pittsburgh area in 1957, where they settled in Mt. Lebanon. They joined the congregation of Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, where she served the congregation in many volunteer capacities, including as the long-time chair of the Flower Committee, Choir Mother, and Wedding Hostess. As Co-chair of the Needlepoint Committee, she applied her tremendous skills in decorating and needlework to beautify the church. Her wide range of interests and talents led her to becoming one of the founding members of the Garden Arts Club of Allegheny County; she was also a member of the Junior League and the 20th Century Club. Later in life, she served for several years at The Carnegie, managing volunteers. A talented interior designer and gracious hostess, she endeared herself to a wide number of friends through her unending kindness and openhearted hospitality throughout the years. They shared her love of tennis, gardening, bridge and the arts. They, and all her family, were the beneficiaries of her tremendous skills as a cook and craftswoman and she loved nothing more than sharing her beautiful home with those she loved. Predeceased by her four siblings and her husband Harold, she is survived by her two sons Harold (“Chip”) Amos and his wife Lori Moglia Amos, and Tim Amos and his wife Lisa Wheeler. A private interment will be held at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church and the family looks forward to a future celebration of Bonnie’s life when conditions permit. In lieu of flowers, Memorial gifts may be sent to the Baptist Homes Foundation Employee Appreciation Fund.
