Age 94, died peacefully at her residence in Upper St. Clair on Friday August 31, 2018. Barbara was the mother of Robert (Alice) MacCallum of Charlottesville, Virginia, Heather (Robert) Kilpatrick of Summerville, South Carolina, Laurel (Robert) Petty of Upper St. Clair, Tracy (Dan) Lydon of Pittsburgh and the late Douglas (surviving spouse Jeanette) of Brentwood, TN; also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husband Samuel Wayne MacCallum, parents May Barth and Charles Warren Kinder, sisters, Elaine Long and Shirley Moon and grandchild Jennifer Jones. Born October 24, 1923 in Lock Four, PA, Barbara graduated from Dormont High School in 1941 and along with her sisters Elaine and Shirley, began a professional singing career as a member of the Kinder Sisters. The trio enjoyed full-time employment by KDKA radio for many years, singing for various shows and promotional pieces. For two seasons, the trio traveled as performing artists with The Ice Capades. Barbara performed as a soprano soloist for numerous area churches throughout her years in Pittsburgh and later in Florida. After marrying in July 1950, Barbara and Sam raised five children in Baldwin Township. Barbara was a devoted mother who displayed strength of character, often parenting alone while Sam traveled as a manufacturer’s sales representative. The couple retired to Palm Bay, Florida in 1981 where they continued to enjoy time with friends and family until Sam’s death in 1996. Barbara returned to the Pittsburgh area in 2005 where she resided at Friendship Village. A memorial service will be held at Friendship Village, 1290 Boyce Rd. Upper St. Clair, PA 15241, on Saturday September 29, 2018 at 2:00 PM with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 333 East Carson St. #441E Pittsburgh, PA 15219, in memory of her son, Douglas Wayne MacCallum, who passed away on September 11, 2018.
