Welcome to the memorial page for

Dorothea C. (Heimbuecher) McGough

January 16, 1916 ~ June 20, 2017 (age 101) 101 Years Old

Age 101, peacefully at home in Mount Lebanon, on Tuesday, June 20, 2017. Born in 1916, when Woodrow Wilson was president and Charlie Chaplin was signing his first film contract. Dorothea was raised in East Liberty, one of two daughters of the late Samuel and Clementine (Arenth) Heimbuecher. Dorothea was very close to her sister, the late Mary Catherine Frey. A strong believer in the equal capability of women, Dorothea took the streetcar downtown to work at the Sun-Telegraph Newspaper and also completed a one-year business management program at Duff Manufacturing on the North Side. Smitten by his pure tenor singing voice, in April of 1941 she married her husband of 46 years, the late Harry McGough. Together they raised their 6 sons until Harry passed in 1987. Dorothea then learned to handle household finances, play the piano, drive a car, become a stock market investor and study the Bible. She was rarely without a book or newspaper in her hands. On any given day, she could remember the opening or closing price of a half dozen stocks. Her many talents included cooking and baking; as her father “Pup Pup,” a strict German man of few words, would remark, “Damn good pie, Dorothea.” For many years she participated in the annual Apple Pie fund-raising project at St. Bernard Church. She was the devoted mother of Tom, Rich (Peggy Bilski), Ken (Barb Anderegg), Paul (Sue Adams), Bob and the late Harry Jr. (Joan Burton surviving). The loving grandmother of Elaine, Pat, Brian, Heather, David, Melissa, Charlie, Michelle, Shaun, Erin and Danny. Dorothea is also survived by many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Friends will be welcomed at Laughlin Memorial Chapel, 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, Thursday evening 6-8, Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Bernard Church, on Saturday morning at 10 o’clock. Family and friends are welcome for lunch immediately following Mass. Interment at Mt. Carmel Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest memorials to Mary House Inc., 7 Gilmore St, Uniontown PA 15401, a project of the Sisters of Charity, care of Annette Frey, SC. Alternatively, a memorial to the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) "Hospice @ Home” program (1-800-355-8894) is suggested. The family wishes to thank AHN Hospice and Comfort Keepers for the loving care they provided to Dorothea.
