Grace Ferrero

November 5, 1927 ~ December 19, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

On December 19, 2017 at the age of 90. She was the daughter of Hazel and Ray Ferrero of Pittsburgh. She attended grade school in Mt. Lebanon and Greentree, and high school in Dormont. She received a scholarship to Carnegie Institute of Technology and graduated from Margaret Morrison College in 1949. There were few jobs for women in science in 1949 when women were mostly limited to professions in nursing and education. Grace chose education. While teaching grade school at Bethel Park she attended the University of Pittsburgh and received a Masters in Education in 1952. She drove cross country in 1950 (before in interstate highway system) to attend summer school at UCLA. This may have begun her interest in travel and she repeated the trip much later to go to Hawaii on the Luriline. Grace earned a Doctorate in Education and finished her career at Pitt teaching and mentoring student teachers. She traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. WSith trips to Egypt and safaris in Africa. She developed an interest in photography and had 40 carousels of slides of her travels. Back in the day slide shows were todays Rick Steve’s travel logs. Her interest in art and history began with evening lectures at Mt. Lebanon High School and continued with trips with ART (art related travel). Grace is survived by her brother Bob (Lee) Ferrero, niece and nephew Amy Ferrero and Robert (Melinda) Ferrero, grand nieces and cousins. She enjoyed good conversation, good food, and her brother’s dogs. She will be sorely missed. Burial will be private. Arrangements by Laughlin Cremation and Funeral Tributes.
