Leonard J. Murgi, Sr.

Leonard J. Murgi, Sr., 85, of Mt. Lebanon, died peacefully September 4, 2017, at home surrounded by family.  Beloved husband to Dolores and loving father to Leonard, Jr. (Tracey) and Michelle Gillespie (Charles). He adored his grandchildren: Leonard III, Brianna and Roman Murgi. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Luigi and Marion, his brothers, Alfred and Frank, and his sister, Marie Knight. He is survived by his sister, Janet Vernacchio and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Leonard joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and was a combat veteran of the Korean War. He was a 60-year member of the Carpenter’s Local 142, and worked for over 40 years in the construction business for Mellon-Stuart Company starting as a laborer and retiring as a Senior Vice President. Throughout his career, he was involved in many important projects in the city of Pittsburgh including, PPG Place, Fifth Avenue Place (Highmark), EQT Plaza and the Westin Convention Center. Leonard was an avid Steeler fan and took joy in their Super Bowl wins. His main hobby was making continuous improvements to his house and yard, which were kept in meticulous order. Friends and family will be received at Laughlin Cremation and Funeral Tributes, Inc., 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.  Mass of the Christian Burial will be held in St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 am, Thursday, September 7, 2017. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in McMurray. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 444 Liberty Avenue, Suite 1300, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
