Thomas Mark Bechtold

age 88, of Wilkinsburg, passed away at Canterbury Place in Lawrenceville, on Saturday September 2, 2017. Beloved husband of 36 years to Patricia J. Smith, father of Edward “Butch” (Linda) Bechtold of North Huntingdon, PA, Thomas A. Bechtold of Texas, John (Heather) Bechtold of Roscoe, PA and Marlene (Edward) Gates of Wilkinsburg, PA.; grandfather of Amy (Michael) Hileman, Cristy (Nathan) Champion, Bella, Aiden, Larry and Maddie Bechtold; great grandfather of Brennan and Ryan Hileman, Karsyn and Reegan Champion; also brother of Martha Langford. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Rebecca Bechtold; siblings, Joseph, Paul, Samuel, Phillip, Benjamin, Andrew and David Bechtold, also Dorathy Boyles and Miriam Rusnak. Tom was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for the Pennsylvania Rail Road for several years and later retired as an elementary school custodian in the Wilkinsburg School District. He enjoyed travelling to bowling matches with his fellow bowling team members from the railroad. He also enjoyed watching many different sports, the Food Network, nature and game shows and classic movies on TV. He was fond of regularly visiting local, state and national parks, going to the zoo, aviary and enjoying the company of his pals at a nearby pub. He always looked forward to travelling to the Eastern Shore and visiting with family in Ohio. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 600 Pitt Street, Wilkinsburg, PA. Inurnment will be held with full military honors at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 509 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, PA (date and time later). In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Family Hospice & Palliative Care, 50 Moffett St, Pittsburgh, PA 15243.
