Her children rise up and call her blessed. Proverbs 31:28. After a long and fruitful life our beloved mother, Virginia O’Connor, died peacefully on Sunday April 29, 2018. Virginia was born in Pittsburgh on December 09, 1914 to Edward and Thecla (Born) Coyne. She married George A. Satler in 1937 and John O’Connor in 1967. Both preceded her in death, as well as siblings Ben Coyne, Eileen Snyder, Rodger Coyne, Oliver Coyne, Roberta Tatarzycki; son’s in law Dick Harris and Guy Rayman and John’s daughters Carol O’Connor and Shirley Anderson. Virginia’s passions were playing bridge and researching her family tree. Her inquiry led to the significant discovery of the location of a stop on the Underground Railroad as it passed through Pittsburgh. In 2011 she was a guest of honor when a plaque was unveiled at Market Square in downtown Pittsburgh. She was proud of her association with friends at Penndale Towers, where she lived for 20 years, as well as the genealogy assistants Carol and Sylvia at Oakland’s Carnegie Library. Virginia is survived by her children Gregg (Ann Brenner), Richard (Cecelia MCloskey), Bernadette Harris, Millicent (Joe) Byrd, Colette (Julie Smith) Satler, and Mary Rayman. Also surviving are her brother-in-law Ed Tatarzycki, John’s son, Chuck (Barbara Jones) O’Connor, 23 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Friends will be welcomed on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Road Mt Lebanon. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Bernard Church on Thursday at 11:30 AM. Interment will be private.
