Barbara Bachman Obituary

Age 88 of Mount Lebanon, PA passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2023. Born in Sharonville, Ohio on October 28, 1934, a daughter of Dr. Ferris and Elizabeth (Marts) Beekley, Barbara, affectionately known as “Snook” and “BABS” was the youngest sister of Dr. Marts E. Beekley (Suzanne) and Jane E. Foulser (Dr. David E.). Barbara joined both siblings at The Ohio State University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, received a BA in Sociology, and met handsome graduate student Joseph A. Bachman. Barbara married then Lt. Bachman (now deceased) in September 1955 and they lived in Elethra, British Virgin Islands, then Alabama, before settling in Greensburg, Pennsylvania to build their lives and family together.  Soon they happily welcomed four children, Ann Ferris of Boca Raton, FL,  Sarah Stewart (Jason Bram) of New York City, Frederich Huff (Patricia Ann) of Pittsburgh) and the late Nathaniel Sikes. Barb was a member of the Westmoreland Garden Club, Greensburg College Club, Pioneer Crafts Council, Christ Episcopal Church, and logged thousands of station wagon miles running children around to a wide variety of activities. Personally, she took up straw craft, patchwork, canvas work & needlepoint.  Barb found her passion in quilting and developed a lifelong interest in all facets of the American Civil War. In 1978 an in-corporate transfer moved Barb and Joe into the South Hills of Pittsburgh where she soon became a member of the Three Rivers Quilting organization and a number of related quilting groups. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.  Barbara was a long-time member of The Pittsburgh Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. She will be remembered for her intellectual curiosity and kindness, really taking an interest in and connecting with others, making friends at each step and stage of life, as well as fighting until the end with strength and dignity. She is survived by her Sister and Brother-in-Law in Elmhurst, Ill, and Sister-in Law in Palo Alto, three children, and Granddaughter Emily Bram of NYC , and Pittsburgh Grandchildren Tina, Tony, Jenny, and loving great grandchildren, Thomas, Kadynce, Delaney, Triston and Ava. In addition to  them,  Nieces and Nephews and extended family will remember Barb each who has received a quilt that she made. Friends have happily enriched her throughout life and especially the last several years. If you care to remember Barbara with a gift, please send one to your local Library or The Mount Lebanon Public Library. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1066 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon on Saturday morning July 1st at 11 o’clock, followed by committal in St. Margaret’s Garden at the Church.
