Age 79, of Scott Twp., passed away on February 16, 2026. Carol was born on March 8, 1946, to the late Carl and Pauline Mosblack of Dormont, PA. She was the beloved wife of 38 years to the late Joseph A. Hirsch; loving stepmother of Angela Smith, Cynthia Sieck, Patty Hirsch Davies, Candace Johnson and the late Joseph P. Hirsch, USAF; dear grandmother to 14 grandchildren including the late Jason Smith. She is also survived by many wonderful friends.
Carol received her religious education in Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, where her parents had been married prior to WWII. She attended Kelton Elementary School and graduated from Dormont High School, class of 1964, the last class before the district was renamed Keystone Oaks.
After graduation she attended Clarion State College (now Clarion University), where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1968. Her first teaching assignment was at Cranberry Area High School in Seneca, PA. One year later she joined the staff at the Mt. Lebanon School District in 1969 and there she remained until she retired in 1998.
During her employment in Mt. Lebanon School District, Carol taught seventh and eighth grade English at Jefferson Junior High School, Mellon Junior High School, and Mt Lebanon Senior High during the years when the junior high was taught on the sixth floor of the senior high building. She also sponsored an award-winning school newspaper for 18 of her 30 years in the district.
Carol earned her Master’s Equivalency Certificate from the PA Department of Education in February 1981 and then became instrumental in the conversion of the Mt. Lebanon School District’s junior high concept to a middle school philosophy. She and Cathryn Diane Coblin, her teaching partner, piloted the program for two years before the district decided that it was a solid program that would benefit the students from that time forward.
Family and friends are welcome on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Rd, Bethel Park, PA 15102, where a Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be private to the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be sent to the Church for Hearts and Paws ministry, (www.christumc.net/petministry) an organization that Carol and her husband Joe founded in 2004 to help those who are struggling to feed and care for their pets. The group provides food, veterinary care, and pet care counseling.
