Carol "Lee" Boyd Obituary

Carol Lee Boyd, age 82, went to be with our Lord on June 6, 2025.

Lee attended Carrick High School and graduated in 1960. Her academic journey continued at Penn State's main campus and the University of Pittsburgh, where she earned a degree in Political Science and Economics in 1967 and went on to get a Masters degree in Library Science. From 1982 to 2002, Lee served as Director of the Whitehall Public Library. Later, from 2003 until the onset of the COVID pandemic, she worked at the Upper St. Clair Library as a reference librarian and Adult Programs Director. A lifelong lover of books, Lee found great joy in her vocation as a librarian.

In 1963 she met her husband Bill at U.S. Steel where they both worked. After a whirlwind courtship of 5 years, Lee and Bill married in 1968. God finally delivered miracles in the form of their daughter Shelley Lee and son William John.

Faith played a significant role in Lee’s life. An active member of her church, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and served many years as a deacon. One of her favorite ministries involved creating colorful blankets to welcome newborns into the church family. Lee loved life and was loved by those whose lives she touched.

She was preceded in death by her five siblings—Ben, Rae, Pat, and her beloved sister Keri, with whom she was especially close.  She is survived by her husband William Boyd III; beloved daughter Shelley Lee; beloved son William John and her beloved grandson Bryce William. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews who were always close to her heart. Her love for family was deep and enduring.

Friends received on Friday, June 13th from 10am until the time of the service at noon in Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Rd. Pittsburgh, PA 15216. Interment to follow in Jefferson Memorial Park.
