Carol Lee Ponzio (née Zeck) Memorial Tribute

Of Providence Point, Scott Township, formerly of Mt. Lebanon, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Carol Lee was the beloved wife of Riccardo (“Dick”) for 61 years. Together they raised four children—Carla, Laura (Ricci), Rick, and John—and built a family that brought them endless joy, including her cherished grandchildren Michael, Matthew, Gianna, and Francesca Ricci, and Leonardo Ponzio-Proft, all of whom affectionately called her "Lee Lee." 

She is also survived by her loving brother, Bill Zeck, his wife Jean Ann, their children in Covington, Kentucky, and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Carol Lee was born on November 29, 1941, on the Northside of Pittsburgh to the late Herman and Genevieve Zeck.  She grew up surrounded by a large, loving family who gathered often at her grandparents' home, affectionately known as "Down Home."

She came from a family of musicians who instilled in her a lifelong love of music. Carol Lee attended St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic Grammar School where she started playing the pipe organ in church at the age of twelve. After graduating from St. Benedict Academy, she attended Seton Hill College, where she graduated in 1963 with a degree in music. She met the love of her life, Riccardo, in 1960 at a Duquesne University dance, and they married on July 3, 1965, at St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic Church. Their marriage marked the beginning of a lifetime of adventures together. Through Riccardo's family travel agency, they explored the world and later shared that love of travel with their children.

Carol Lee was an accomplished organist at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Mt. Lebanon for over two decades.  She was also a beloved piano teacher who touched many lives.

Her greatest professional legacy was helping found the Center for Theater Arts in Mt. Lebanon in 1981. As a founding faculty member, she taught musical theatre and voice, inspiring generations of young performers through the Center's mission to "Reach for a Star." She held a special place in her heart for the Center's special needs program.

Whether welcoming guests into her home or mentoring young performers, Carol Lee had a gift for making everyone feel they belonged. She delighted in entertaining family and friends, and when faced with feeding a crowd, she would simply smile and say, "It's just one more meatball." That simple phrase reflected the generosity, warmth, and joy she shared with everyone around her.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 4-8 PM, at Laughlin Cremation and Funeral Tributes, located at 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, PA. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 3, 2026 (Carol Lee and Riccardo’s 61st wedding anniversary) at 11:30 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Parish - St. Bernard Church located at 311 Washington Rd, Pittsburgh, PA. Interment to follow in Mount Lebanon Cemetery.
