It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charlene Lucas of Pittsburgh, PA, who left us on March 16, 2025 at the age of 80. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering spirit
She is survived by her three beloved daughters Natalie Hunter, Becky Lucas, Cindy Brylka (Chuck); five cherished grandchildren Misteria DeRung (Aaron), Nolan Steele, Hannah Steele, Jake Brylka, Cecilia Hunter; and three adored great-grandchildren Nova DeRung, Scarlett Simoni, and Everett Simoni, all of whom will forever hold her love and guidance in their hearts.
Charlene dedicated many years of service to Bell Atlantic, where she worked in repair service before retiring. She served her community by volunteering as a therapeutic clown and offering support at a domestic violence call center. Her compassion and sense of humor brought light to those who needed it most.
She found joy in simple pleasures, crocheting, reading, and the unconditional love for her fur babies, whom she spoiled endlessly. She was known for her open-door policy, welcoming her daughters and their friends at all hours, always ready to make breakfast at 2 a.m. and offering a listening ear.
Her grandchildren will attest that time spent with her was always an adventure. Whether in the kitchen baking for special occasions, walks in the woods looking for treasure, or just hanging with Gram, the memories are endless and deeply felt.
Her warmth and wisdom made every coffee conversation at Eat’n Park an event, filled with laughter, sage advice, and sometimes tears. She never minced words but always spoke from the heart, holding many hands through life’s toughest moments. To so many, she was more than just “Mom” - she was “Big Char”, a force of love, honesty, and resilience.
She often reminded us, “Never let them take your smile,” and no matter what life threw her way, she always found the positive, leaving us with her signature phrase, “We had a good day.”
Her legacy of love, strength, and humor will live on in family and friends who will gather to honor the remarkable woman she was at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon on Thursday from 5:00 until funeral ceremony at 7:00 o’clock. Interment will be private.
Rest easy, Big Char. We had a good day because of you.
