Curtis Cooper Obituary

Passed away peacefully on December 15, 2023. Born in Roanoke, VA, in 1943, he made Pittsburgh his home since 1974. He is survived by his wife, Annie Trimble; his children: Brian (Jeanette Pon), Sean (Lesley Bevan), Heather, and Darren (Elizabeth Larsen); four grandchildren: Emily, Katherine, Rylo, and Charlie; and siblings Andrea Cooper, Dianne Hotchkin, Jim Racko, Bill Racko, and Andy Racko.

Curt worked as a Chemical Engineer for PPG for 35 years, well-respected in the field for his expertise and management skills. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, camping, and canoeing with family. He also enjoyed shooting sports and gunsmithing. But his true passion was playing acoustic music. He enjoyed jamming with friends and performed with several local bands, including the folk duo South Wind with his wife Annie and the Cajun band, Grand Bon Rien. He and Annie have hosted many acoustic concerts in their home over the years.

In honor of Curt’s passion for supporting folk music in Pittsburgh, donations to Calliope, the Pittsburgh Folk Music Society, would be appreciated.

A gathering to celebrate Curt’s life is planned for Sunday, April 21, at 4:00 PM, at the Buffalo Inn facility in South Park, Pittsburgh, PA.
