David T. Arth, of Mt. Lebanon, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at the age of 81.
Son of the late George and Elsie Arth; beloved husband of the late Linda R. Arth; loving father of Eric (Jessica) Arth, Christina (Scott) Verel, Rebecca Haldeman, and Brian (Jennifer) Arth; grandfather of Audrey, Caroline, Natalie, Zoe, Emily, Logan, Lila, Jocelyn, Jack and Ben; great-grandfather of Ezekiel, Elena and Archer.
David was born the fourth of five children growing up on Birch Avenue in Mt. Lebanon. In 1960, he joined the Navy and completed two tours in the Mediterranean Sea. He often said being in the Navy was the best time of his life and enjoyed traveling the world. He went on to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in history from Duquesne University in 1970. In 1969, he started with RL Swearer Company Inc. where he earned his customs brokerage license. He worked at RL Swearer as a customs broker and freight forwarder until retiring in 2008. Upon retirement, he and Linda went on multiple trips to visit all the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren spread across the country. He was an avid golfer, loved his church & the Brotherhood, enjoyed the annual family beach trips and was a devoted season ticket holder for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Friends will be received on Thursday, October 17, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Rd. Pittsburgh, PA 15216. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 18 at 11am at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3104 West Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15216. Interment in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies will take place at a later date.
