Doris Shepherd Obituary

of Providence Point in Scott Township, died peacefully on June 30, 2021, surrounded by her family. Beloved wife for 30 years of the late Warren Dee Shepherd; devoted mother of Sandi (Pat) Keaveny, Tina (Nick) Galli, Doug (Gina) Clarke and Jim Clarke; beloved stepmother of Sandy (Tad) Flota, James Dee Shepherd, Tom (Michele) Shepherd and Sue (Scott) Graham;  loving grandmother of Emily, Krystina and Meghan, Bailey and Carly, and Matt, Ben and McClane; step grandmother of Jennifer, Samantha, Katie, Jonathan and Andrew; also deeply loved by her great grandchildren, Jackson, Ava and Becca. She was the cherished matriarch of our family and her energy, humor and compassion will be deeply missed. Doris was born in Allison Park, PA, on September 4, 1933, one of three daughters of James and Ora Wineskey.  Doris grew up in Allison Park and graduated from Hampton High School in 1951. Following high school, she attended the Louise Salinger Academy of Fashion, which launched her long career as a talented and accomplished dress and costume designer.  One of Doris’ proudest accomplishments was in her role as the longest active member of the UPMC Magee Women’s Twenty-Five Club, benefiting neonatal research and clinical care at Magee-Women’s Hospital. During her 33 years of active membership, Doris worked tirelessly, alongside other members, in raising funds to support the groundbreaking efforts of researchers and highly trained specialists to advance the care of infants. She was also an active member of the Junior Women’s League and participated in many fundraising efforts for them as well as other volunteer organizations.  Beyond volunteering, Doris loved to travel with her husband, attend many events with her friends, and especially loved to spend time as a snowbird in Florida, where her children and grandchildren joined her to enjoy time at the beach. During the last six years of her life, she resided at Providence Point, where she was blessed with a wonderful group of friends, actively playing bridge, and attending CLO shows and other group events. Interment will be private.  A celebration of life for family and friends will be held between 2pm and 3pm, reception to follow, on Saturday July 10, 2021, at the Providence Point Chapel, 500 Providence Point Blvd (412) 489-3550. The family wants to sincerely thank the staff at Gallagher Hospice for their extraordinary care and compassion during our mother’s final days. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Doris’ name to Gallagher Hospice, LLC, 1370 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, PA 15017 or to The Twenty-Five Club, 300 Halket Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
