Passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on December 23, 2021. He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine "Mona Lee", with whom he had a sixty-nine year love affair; his three sons, Thomas, his wife Diane, William his wife Theresa and Jack, his wife Kathleen; and seven grandchildren, Joseph, John, Katie, Kristine, Michael, James, Megan, and was preceded in death by his granddaughter Kara in 1996. Dr. Riley grew up in Washington, PA, graduated from East Washington High School and attended Duquesne University where he received his B.S. in pharmacy. He then served as an officer in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. Following his discharge in 1955, Dr. Riley practiced pharmacy at Washington Hospital Pharmacy until entering graduate school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology in 1961. Dr. Riley was invited to join the faculty at Case Western where he did cell structure research with future Nobel Prize winner Earl Sutherland. Dr. Riley returned to Duquesne University in 1966 where he was a professor of pharmacology in the school of pharmacy for the next twenty-nine years. When he retired in 1995, he was awarded professor emeritus, which resulted in a distinguished alumnus award, an Outstanding Educators of America award, as well as School of Pharmacy and University awards in recognition of his outstanding teaching of students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Riley was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, the Phi Lambda Leadership Society and the founder of the Duquesne University chapter of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity. Dr. Riley, along with his two sons, Tom and Bill opened the Lebanon Shops Pharmacy in 1983. Visitation will be private for the family. All are invited to his Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anne Church, St. Paul of The Cross Parish, on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy 600 Forbes Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15282.
