age 77, of Mt. Lebanon, peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, May 10th, 2024. Cherished son of the late Owen Joseph late Grace (Boone) Kilbane; beloved husband for 53 years of Nancy (Dunbar) Kilbane; loving father of Sheila (Joel) Carr and Colleen Kilbane; proud Papa of Grace, Nancy, Ruth, Nora, and Owen; caring cousin of Carol (the late Jack) Longstreet and the late Donna Fortune; also survived by many cousins in Cleveland, Ohio, and Achill Island, Ireland.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 16th, 1947, Owen was a world-renowned Christmas newsletter author, expert Jimmy Buffet tailgater, and went for the bronze medal in the 1995 Stone Harbor Olympic rollerblading competition. He was well known for flunking out of St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio, and eating ice cream in his underwear. Owen often bragged about winning one Irish dancing medal at the age of 7, his only award. When not impersonating Elvis, spinning at Grateful Dead concerts, or serving as a founding member of the Bridgevillage People, he was a beloved orthodontist for over 25 years. Owen was a 1965 graduate of John Marshall High School in Cleveland, Ohio, a proud 1969 graduate of the University of Dayton, and taught at South Hills Catholic High School (now Seton La Salle) before earning his D.M.D from the University of Pittsburgh. Another one of Owen’s accomplishments was nurturing his many lasting friendships. If you were lucky enough to know Owen, you were lucky enough. Owen’s passions were his family and the rolling hills of Achill Island, Ireland. Owen was happiest when listening to Irish music and playing the accordion and the bagpipes, “not very well” he would say. Owen was known for his infectious humor and would do anything for a laugh. He savored the simple things and lived a life led by kindness. He taught us that laughter is medicine, love is precious, and time is a gift. Slán abhaile, Owen.
Family plans for service and internment are private. Memorial gifts may be directed to the University of Dayton, Balmoral School of Piping and Drumming, and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
