Eileen Schilken Obituary

A proud Marine wife, devoted mother and grandmother, a Bourbon Manhattan lover, Eileen Schilken passed on April 10th, 2026 surrounded by family.

Born in Pittsburgh to Patrick and Rita Keohane, Eileen was proudly Irish to her core, volunteering at the Irish festival alongside her daughter and son-in-law, attending St. Patrick’s Day parades, and proudly sporting her shamrock turtlenecks all year round. In her final days, she found great joy singing Irish folk songs & the Marines’ Hymn for anybody who would listen.

Above all else, Neen’s most beloved role was being “Mammy” to “her girls” - granddaughters Alex and Meghan. She often said it “just tickled her” that those beyond her granddaughters adopted the title as well. She was the family historian, the keeper of stories, and beloved older sister to Nor, Kathy and sister-in-law Karen. She cherished lifelong relationships, including her beloved “Cathedral Girls,” with whom she continued to share regular lunches long after their school days had passed.

Neen endured profound loss throughout her life— her mother, husband, sisters, daughter, and many dear friends. Widowed at a young age, she raised two children whom she was fiercely proud of. As a two time survivor of breast cancer, she continued to radiate strength throughout her lifetime.

Neen had a grounded and unwavering sense of self. She knew exactly who she was—a black coffee drinker, a chocolate cake lover, and a woman who found freedom behind the wheel of her car.

As a public health nurse and graduate of Carlow University, Neen took pride in her work with Allegheny County Health Department. She was delighted that her son, daughter, and granddaughters chose to follow her example and enter the healthcare field.

Her life was deeply rooted in her Catholic faith. A devoted member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish for more than 60 years, she could often be found attending daily Mass. She was also an active member of the Ladies of Charity, living her faith through service and generosity.

Neen lived a full and vibrant life- she was a familiar face at The Trading Post, bowling leagues, and card club. She found joy in simple pleasures: baking apple pies, reading voraciously, and making frequent visits to the Mt. Lebanon Public Library. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the friends she held close, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and strength.

Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Schilken Sr., whom she married in 1959. Additionally, she now joins her parents Patrick and Rita McGrath Keohane, sisters Kathleen (Frank) Scuticchio and Noriene (Warren) Schuetz, brother-in-law John C. (Karen) Schilken III, niece Cynthia Scuticchio, and beloved daughter Eileen Patricia Schilken-Windsor. She is survived by her son Dr. Robert “Bob”, daughter-in-law Dolores, granddaughters Alexandra “Alex” and Dr. Meghan Schilken, son-in-law Charles “Charlie” Windsor, niece Mary (Tom) Hoffmann, and nephews John C. Schilken IV, Frank (Karen) and Michael (Dana), and numerous great nieces, nephews, and cousins spanning from Pittsburgh to Ireland.

Neen’s friends and family are welcome on Sunday, April 12th from 1pm - 4pm and Monday, April 13th from 2pm - 6pm at Laughlin Cremation and Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, PA.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 14th at 10am at Saint Bernard Church, 311 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon, PA. The family gratefully suggests memorial gifts of Masses for the repose of Eileen Schilken’s soul or charitable contributions to St. Michael the Archangel Parish.
