Eugene C. Smith, age 97, of Castle Shannon, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 6, 2025, surrounded by family. Gene is survived by his loving & devoted family, wife of 68 years, Rosemary M. (Snyder) Smith, son Gregory E. Smith, daughter Roseann M. Luczak & her husband Russell A. Luczak. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Joanne M. (Snyder) Neiport, many nieces, nephews & extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Grover L. Smith Sr. & Anna M. (Koffler) Smith, his sister Loretta E. Fischer, his brothers Donald C. Smith & Grover L. “Jay" Smith Jr., as well as several nephews.
Gene was born and raised in Stowe Twp., PA, moving with his wife Rosemary to Castle Shannon in the early 1960's to raise their family and enjoy their later years. He was a Boy Scout for many years, served in the US Army during World War II, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh and was a Sigma Chi Fraternity Brother. Along with his wife Rosemary, Gene was a member of the “Hilltoppers" senior group, enjoying their many activities, bus trips & cruises and was a member of St. Winifred Church - Saint Paul of the Cross Parish. Throughout his career he worked in the finance & banking industry, retiring from PNC Bank in 1990 after 30 years of service. He will also be remembered for his love & enjoyment of cars, boats and trains.
Gene was a devoted and loving man who, in addition to his family, will be remembered and missed by many very special and compassionate neighbors, friends, caregivers and helpers, to whom his family owes a debt of extreme gratitude for their continuing support and kindness. The family would also like to thank the staff at St. Clair Hospital and Gallagher Hospice.
