Francis Patrick “Frank” Corbett
95, of Upper St. Clair passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, November 4, 2121. Son of the late Patrick and Elizabeth McGillick Corbett. Beloved husband for 59 years of the late Mary Lou Lamark Corbett (2016); devoted father of Frank P. Corbett, Jr. (Lea), Barbara Corbett Vogel (Joe), Tom Corbett, David Corbett (Ellen) and the late Ann Corbett; loving grandfather of Peter, Maria and Rebecca Vogel; brother of Thomas Corbett, Joseph Corbett, Edward Corbett, and the late: Rev. John Corbett, Margaret Daley and James Corbett.
Frank was born in 1926, the oldest of 7 children. He attended St. Bernard’s Elementary School and Mt. Lebanon High School, where he lettered in four sports. He graduated in 1944, joined the U.S. Navy, and was making his way up the West Coast to the base at Whidbey Island, WA when VJ Day was declared.
After his service, he attended and graduated from Duquesne University, where he was captain of the baseball team. He had a one-day tryout with the Pirates where, according to his own lore, he was not given a fair shot, as the tryout was brief and marred by distractions. He turned to golf and became an exceptional golfer. He worked for his father’s auto parts distributor before breaking off and establishing his own company, F.P. Corbett Co., Inc. Located on Baum Boulevard in East Liberty for more than 3 decades, he also opened satellite offices in Florida and New Jersey that two of his brothers ran. He sold the business in 1991 and enjoyed retirement the past 30 years.
A resident of O’Hara Township for more than 40 years, he moved back to the South Hills in 2000, spending his remaining years in Upper St. Clair. He was a devout Catholic, lifelong Notre Dame football fan, and avid golfer, fly fisherman and jazz aficionado.
