Frank was born on January 26, 1933 to Francis Connor Donovan and Mary Burke Donovan in Pittsburgh. A graduate of Central Catholic High School, he went on to attend the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 1954; earned his medical degree at Georgetown University; did his internship at University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital; and completed his psychiatry training at the Western Psychiatric Institute & Clinic and Pittsburgh Child Guidance Center. After marrying his wife of 57 years, Georgeanne Holland Donovan, he went on to serve in the Army Medical Corps at the 121st Evacuation Hospital in South Korea and Fort Ord in Monterrey, CA. In 1965 they returned to Pittsburgh where he practiced psychiatry for 47 years.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ann Malone and Katherine Menard, and their spouses, Paul Malone and Raymond Menard.
Besides Georgeanne, he is survived by his daughter, Anne Donovan-Brady and her husband Tom Brady of Elmhurst, IL and his son, John F. Donovan, M.D. and his wife Lisa A. Odyniec of San Francisco, CA and their daughters, Francesca and Marisa.
Viewing hours have been omitted. All are welcome to attend his Funeral Mass in St. Bernard Church (St. Michael the Archangel Parish), 311 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. (Everyone will be required to wear a mask and social distance both outside and inside of the church). Private interment with Military Honors will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
