Francis C. “Frank” Hynds, age 91, died peacefully on Monday, December 11, 2023.
Frank was the devoted father of Kathleen, Peter (Catriona), Stephen (Erin), and Joseph (Ann). He was the proud grandfather of Madeline, Patrick, Ella, MacGregor, Lily, Henry, Lucy, William and John. He is also survived by his former spouse, Joanne and his sister, Mary Valdes, and predeceased by his brothers Joseph and John Hynds.
Frank was born in the Bronx, NY on July 30, 1932, before settling in Mt. Lebanon in 1974. He was a proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard and a member of the American Merchant Marines Veterans Association, American Legion, League of Women Voters and the Knights of Columbus. He was a long-time member of St. Anne Church (St. Paul of the Cross Parish), their Seniors Group and the Holy Name Society. Frank was also a volunteer with Family Hospice for over 20 years.
Francis served in the United States Coast Guard from 1951 to 1956, after which time he attended Clarkson University. Following a career in industrial sales, Francis enjoyed his retirement by spending time with family, participating in many veteran’s events, playing Santa Claus in various parades and department stores, and touring the country, many times in his RV. He spent his life being curious, cultivating relationships, both old and new, and he touched many lives along his marvelous journey. Francis never met a stranger, always enjoyed talking to the natives and he made connections wherever he pulled up a chair. With a twinkle in his eye and a fantastic Ho-Ho-Ho, heaven has just gained another amazing St. Nick, or perhaps even better, a St. Francis C. Hynds.
Friends will be welcomed at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon on Tuesday, December 19th from 4:00 until 7:00pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated in Saint Anne Church on Wednesday morning December 20th at 10 o’clock.
