Age 81, of Dormont, on Saturday, April 10, 2026. Beloved husband for 53 years of the late Gwen A. (Canonge) Nelson; devoted father of Amy (Christopher) Torcaso of Scott Township and Lori (John) Oleksak of Dormont; proud grandfather of Austin, Alexander, Thomas and Tyler.
George was raised in Kittaning, PA and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh Hospital School of Respiratory Therapy. He went on to work as a registered therapist at UPMC Presbyterian University Hospital for 49 years.
George was a member of the Dormont Volunteer Fire Department serving as a firefighter, secretary, vice-president and president with his career in the department spanning over 50 years. In addition, he was the past Exalted Ruler of Wilkinsburg Elks BPOE # 577 and an Usher at the Benedum Center.
Friends will be welcomed at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon on Sunday afternoon, April 19th from 1:00 until 4:00 with a Firefighters Service at 4:00. Interment will be private
In lieu of flower, if desired, memorials in George’s honor should be made to the Dormont Volunteer Fired Department.
