Gerald A. Burke

On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, Gerald A. Burke, of Mt. Lebanon, PA, formerly of Liverpool, England, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 78. 

Gerald is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Burke; children Ashley Burke, Jonathan (Ajna) Burke, David (Casey) Burke, and Alison Burke; siblings Ronnie Burke, Rita (Carl) Jones, and the late Sheila Kay. He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren Jasmin, Jade, Lucy, Quinn, Gianna, Nigel, and Scarlett. 

Gerald grew up in Liverpool, England where he met and married his wife, Barbara. He dedicated his career to Academia, starting in Liverpool, then at Cambridge University where he worked for 17 years before moving to Hong Kong and a string of international colleges and universities to improve the quality of higher education programs worldwide. Gerald took every opportunity to travel and take his family to new places. He loved to tell stories, especially to his grandchildren, spend time in his garden, cooking at the grill and enjoying a glass of wine on the patio. 

He loved the royal family and had the pleasure of being invited, with his wife Barbara, to “Tea at Buckingham Palace with the Queen” where he also met other members of the royal family.

Friends will be welcomed at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon on Monday, January 23, at 11:00am until the time of the Memorial Service at 11:30am.
