Gilbert C. McCurrie

Age 95, of Upper St. Clair, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday August 25, 2022. Beloved husband of Mary Lou (Howley) McCurrie; father of J. Daniel (Donna) of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren Gilbert Connor (Marissa), Riley (Sam Hyder), Mel, Ray and Edy; Bradley (Donna) of Los Gatos, CA, grandchildren Matthew and Megan; and Brian (Barbara) of Pittsburgh, PA , grandchildren James, Michael (Julia), David, Robert and Kathleen. Born in Kearny, NJ, in January 1927 of the late James and Marie McCurrie. He served in the US Navy at the end of World War II, graduated from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ and began an insurance career in New York City which took him briefly to New Hampshire, Philadelphia, and in 1953 to Pittsburgh, PA where he met and married Mary Lou. He was a Vice-President with marsh & McLennan and Sedgewick James during a more than forty year career, retiring in 1995. He is survived by his beloved sister Anita (McCurrie) Glynn and preceded in death by his brother Paul and his wife Liz McCurrie, his brother-in-law Jack Glynn and his grandson Gregory McCurrie. He led a faith filled life, as demonstrated by his endless dedication to taking care of his wife, Mary Lou. His (13) grandchildren, (6) great-grandchildren and (9) nieces and nephews were always the source of his greatest delights. He was also blessed to be surrounded by a group of friends that he cherished as much as he did his family. Family and friends will be received on Sunday August 28 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes 222 Washington Road Mt. Lebanon. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Monday August 29 at St. Thomas More Church (Resurrection Parish). Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Western PA School for Blind Children or the Alzheimer's Association.
