Herman Schuler Obituary

With deep sadness and loving remembrance, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Herman R. Schuler on March 14, 2026. Cherished son (and best buddy) of Clare Schuler and the late Herman Schuler; treasured brother of Joe Schuler, Fred and Pat Schuler, Frank and Anita Schuler, Bill and Pam Schuler, and Bob and Jenn Schuler; dear uncle of Michael and Becca Schuler, Patrick and Patty McKinley, Aaron and Emily Boynton, Noah and Caitlyn Schuler, Chloe Schuler, Matt and Amanda Banai, Jake Schuler, Zach Schuler and fiancé Juliana Ruggiero, and Max Schuler; and great uncle of Calli Marchitello, Madison Banai, Eleanor McKinley, and Mabel McKinley.

Herman had a gentle spirit and a childlike innocence that made him truly special to those who knew him. Above all, he loved his mother and his brothers, who meant the world to him. His love for them was constant and sincere, and he treasured the time they spent together, finding comfort, strength, and happiness in their presence.

Herman lived life to the fullest despite the challenges he faced. It never took much for him to be happy. He found joy in the simple things and approached life with curiosity and wonder. Inquisitive by nature, he loved learning how things worked and was always eager to understand the world around him. When asked what he wanted to watch on television, he would most often choose the Discovery Channel, enjoying the many things it taught him.

Herman was a creative and thoughtful soul—an artist in every sense of the word. He expressed himself through many forms, from crafting jewelry and designing apparel to constructing multi-media sculptures from unconventional materials and writing poetry. His sense of humor was both sharp and gentle, often inviting laughter while encouraging others to see the world from a fresh and unexpected perspective.

Herman genuinely enjoyed being around people and found joy in sharing stories, ideas, and knowledge. Conversations with Herman were never ordinary; they reflected his insight and distinctive way of understanding life.

In recent years, Herman published a book titled New Age Poetry with the support of VaultArt Studio (a project of Achieva). Inside the book, he described himself as “An Artist, A Poet, an Earth Scientist or All of the Above.”  Herman’s book features a collection of his most notable poetry, illuminating the depth of his understanding of himself and the world around him. One of his poems reads, “Life is nice but odd and strange at the same time.” Another poem gives insight into his own thinking about his mortality, simply stating, “Here I am 63 years older. Who could of thunk it so? I made it so far.”  The back cover highlights another poem that shares a thought we should all consider as we begin each day, “Life is what you make of it.”

One of his favorite pastimes was eating out at his favorite local restaurants, especially Eat'n Park, Applebee’s, and Carbonara’s. These outings were moments he truly enjoyed, often filled with conversation, laughter, and the simple pleasure of a good meal. Herman was often the first one to finish his meal. Once his food arrived, he rarely spoke until he was done eating. Shortly after finishing, he would smile and announce to everyone at the table, “Nothing personal, just business.”

Lovingly, Herman was often referred to as the “Cookie Monster,” as he never met a homemade cookie he did not like. Chocolate chip cookies were a particular favorite. On one occasion, he happily devoured more than three dozen of them over the course of several days simply because he enjoyed the cookies so much. Peppermint Patties were another favorite treat, and rarely did a day go by without him enjoying a few.

Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in the countless memories that will forever keep his spirit close to us. We know a beautiful soul is never forgotten. Herm, as he was affectionately known to those closest to him, will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in our hearts.
