Immacolata "Ata" Scarpino Obituary

Immacolata "Ata"  Scarpino (D’Aquilante), age 78, was delivered to God on the wings of heaven’s angels on the Feast Day of the Guardian Angels, October 2, 2018, in Pittsburgh, PA. Daughter of parents Domenico and Filomena D’Aquilante. Beloved wife of Giuseppe “Joseph” Scarpino for 41 years. Cherished mother of John (Dana) Scarpino, D.Sc., and doting grandmother to her most precious granddaughter, Liliana. Survived by sisters Angela DiMatteo, Lidia (Giuseppe) Palmieri, Ascensina Margiotta, Concetta (Richard) Ward, and Nicoletta (George) Coates, and brother Graziano D’Aquilante. Reunited in heaven with dear sister Iola (Eugenio) DiPaolo, brothers-in-law Enrico DiMatteo and Pietro “Badoglio” Margiotta, and sister-in-law Debra D’Aquilante. Born in Pizzoferrato, Abruzzi, Italy, she survived the horror of World War II as a child. As an adult, she resided in Rome, Italy; Montreal, Canada; New Hamburg, NY; and Malvern, PA, before joining the rest of her family in Pittsburgh in 1972. Immacolata was a strong and positive role model who led by example in serving God first and foremost in all aspects of her life. She exuded a pure, selfless love for her family and friends, and delivered compassionate care to countless patients while working as nurse's aid at UPMC Montefiore and UPMC Presbyterian hospitals in Pittsburgh for more than 35 years. Genuinely accepting of all and generous by nature, Immacolata’s kindhearted presence will be sorely missed by everyone she touched during her lifetime. Family and friends will be received on Friday, October 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon. Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Pius X Church in Brookline on Saturday, October 6, at 9:30 a.m. with interment following at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org.
