J. A. Wunderlich, III Obituary

On Thursday April 29, 2021, J.A. “Jan” Wunderlich, III, devoted son, beloved friend and neighbor of those in the Mt. Lebanon community and beyond, passed away at the age of 77. Jan was born on August 12, 1943, in Mt. Lebanon, PA, the son of the late Dr. John Andrew and Mary Lou Wunderlich.  He graduated from Mount Lebanon High School and enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a medic in Vietnam.  He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh.  Jan spent much of his professional career working as a Pharmacist at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. He had a passion for life and for learning.  He was a student of many subjects, including history, classical music, the national parks, and aviation. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of an array of topics and was a formidable Jeopardy competitor. He also loved biking and could be seen pedaling the streets of Mt. Lebanon frequently with his silver hair, red jacket and red bicycle. He would frequently bike as far as Glassport and have a Pepsi at Bob’s Bar. Jan loved to travel to visit friends from the Carolinas to Colorado, bringing with him his curiosity and infectious smile and laugh. Jan had a huge heart and loved to serve others which he did through shoveling neighbors’ driveways and putting out the trash for pick up. He was a generous supporter of many community-based organizations in the Pittsburgh area. A Pizza Celebration of Jan's life will be held at the Family Residence on Friday evening, May 7th from 5:00 until 7:00. Service and interment in Mount Lebanon Cemetery, will be Private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Children’s Hospital.
