James McCarthy Obituary

James W. McCarthy, 85, of Mt. Lebanon, formerly of Wilkinsburg, passed away peacefully, with his daughter by his side, on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

Husband of the late Ann (Hudson) McCarthy; beloved father of Jennifer (Michael) Freker and Brian McCarthy; brother of Mary Jo Waters; loving grandfather, “Pop Pop”, of Sarah Freker, Matthew McCarthy, and Jonathan Freker.

A proud alumni of Duquesne University, James earned a degree in accounting before continuing his education at Duquesne Law School. His professional journey was marked by his work as a CPA and attorney. He owned and operated Property Development Associates, LTD, along with several other successful enterprises. His expertise and leadership extended beyond his businesses, as he served on the boards of numerous organizations, making a lasting impact wherever he went.

James found particular joy in his involvement with Presbyterian SeniorCare, where he served on the board for many years. He was also a founding member of Christian Housing, a project close to his heart, and was instrumental in its development and success.

James was a kind, gentle, and loving man who touched the lives of everyone he met. His family always came first, and he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was also a passionate animal lover, supporting the Humane Society throughout his life as a lifelong member and contributor.

A man of culture, James had a deep love for the theater. He was a season ticket holder of both the Broadway series and the Pittsburgh Public Theater.

Every year, James found joy in vacationing with his family and friends in Walt Disney World, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

A longtime parishioner of St. Anne Church, and for the last 3 years, a parishioner of St. Benedict the Moor. James practiced his faith in every aspect of his life.
