James “Jim” Doyle Smee
Age 75, of Mt. Lebanon, PA, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025, at Asbury Heights in Pittsburgh, PA.
Um, let’s see here.
Jim was born in Cleveland, OH, to the late Doyle Francis Smee and Mae Dean (Pyle) Smee, both born in Arkansas. Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth (Jones) Smee; loving father of Jeffrey (Jacqui), Gregory (Chelsea), Benjamin (Heather), Daniel (Natassia), Peter (Zoree), and Martha (Andrew); dearest grandfather to Margaret, Lauren, and Annie, and soon to be four; caring brother to Bob (Eileen), and the late Paul Smee.
Jim attended Upper Saint Clair High School and was President of the class of 1968. He was accepted to Brown University where he earned a degree in Metallurgical Engineering and graduated with honors in 1972. Upon graduation he took his first job at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, operated by Westinghouse. There he spent his entire career of over 45 years as a well-respected employee and retired as Principal Scientist in 2020.
Jim married his wife, Elizabeth, in 1980 and recently celebrated 45 years of marriage. They are blessed with 6 children, and 3 grandchildren.
Jim was a reserved man who was dedicated to his family. He possessed a dry sense of humor that was thoroughly enjoyed by his children. He enjoyed playing guitar, gardening, and was an avid collector.
Jim was a published author of the genealogical history of his family.
Family and friends are welcome from 2-4 p.m., on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Laughlin Cremation and Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon, PA, where a Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m.
Jim’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the amazing Asbury Heights Laurel Lane staff, who took such good care of him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Asbury Foundation of Asbury Heights, asburyheights.org/donations/, or UPMC Family Hospice West, tinyurl.com/familyhospicedonation.
And, I think, that’ll do it.
