Janet Heindel Obituary

Janet Sheaffer Heindel entered her heavenly rest on July 3, 2026. Janet was born on February 28, 1937 in Dixon, Illinois, the daughter of Robert Chris Sheaffer and Dorothy Rosella Covert Sheaffer. She was 89 years of age.


Janet was a 1955 graduate of Dixon High School, and a 1958 graduate of the University of Illinois. She was a member of the Beverly Heights Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder, a member of the choir, and played handbells; also was a past member of the Bridgeville Presbyterian Church. She was an active member and a past chapter president of PEO. She had been employed as a dietician for the Sewickley  Hospital, a salesperson with Zondervan Christian bookstore, and retired as a bookkeeper with the Tigg Corporation. Her interests included gardening and raising flowers, playing the piano, and displaying the love of her Savior Jesus Christ through her vibrant faith and her deep love for her family.


Janet is survived by her husband of 68 years, David Spencer Heindel, whom she married on June 15, 1958; her sister Diane Sheaffer Helin (John “Jack”); her sister-in-law Jane Helin Sheaffer (Dean); daughters Amelia Heindel Haley (Rev. Kevin), Mary Heindel Eckert (Stephen), and Sarah Heindel Maddigan (James); grandchildren Christopher Haley (Julie), Gregory Haley, Patrick Maddigan, Thomas Maddigan, Gretchen Eckert, Maximilian Eckert (Heather), and John Callahan Maddigan.  She is predeceased by her parents, and her brothers Dean Robert Sheaffer (Jane), and Frederick Erwin Sheaffer (Alyce).


A memorial service and celebration of her life will take place on Thursday, July 9, at 2:30pm in the chapel at Providence Point, 600 Madison Avenue in Scott Township, with a reception following.
