On June 9, 2021, Jeanne L. Shaffer was called home to be with God. She was a Mt. Lebanon resident for 45 years. Jeanne grew up in Oakland, where she graduated from Carlow College for her degree in education, and earned her M.S. from Duquesne University. She taught for over 40 years in the Allegheny Intermediate Unit programs. Her dedication and commitment to neglected children resulted in numerous accolades and meritorious awards. Jeanne is survived by her husband, Daniel J. Shaffer III, and their son, Daniel J. Shaffer IV of the Boston MA area, sister Christine Aranowski of Adams Twp, brother Stanley Aranowski of Ft. Myers, FL, and numerous cousins. Jeanne’s support for our military was always strong, but became a passion for her when their son entered the United States Military Academy at West Point. After trying to talk him out of it for 1½ years, she realized her attempts were futile. Instead, she got on board as president of the West Point Parents Club, and supported other Service Academies, as well as military and veteran related organizations. She tirelessly honored God, Family, Country, and Freedom. She was an active member of Southminster Presbyterian Church and always looked forward to participating in the Sarah Circle meetings there. She loved her church, and was willing to give and do whatever she could to improve the lives of others. A memorial service will be held in celebration of Jeanne’s life on Saturday, June 19 at 10:00 AM in Southminster Presbyterian Church, 799 Washington Rd., Mt. Lebanon. Pastor Jim Tinnemeyer, Jr. will officiate. In lieu of other acts of kindness, contributions to Southminster Presbyterian Church, St. Clair Hospital, or Wounded Warrior Project on her behalf are greatly appreciated.
