Our husband and father, John Kauper passed away peacefully on December 28th, 2020. John was born in 1932 Mt Lebanon Pennsylvania, where he lived most of his life and raised his family. After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University in architecture he designed and developed countless award winning private residences, government buildings, and commercial properties across the United States. He constantly dreamed of his next project, innovative use of land, and interior spacial design. His letter writing and periodical annotations were renowned and cherished by the lucky recipients. John was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He was gregarious and funny and brought so much joy to those around him. He loved his family, the arts, politics, reading, and was a fantastic conversationalist, the likes of which few of us will ever experience again. He encouraged his children to work hard and use their minds to make the world a better place. John is survived by his wife Sarah, daughter Alexandra, son Greg and grandchildren Natalie and Lauren, and his siblings Sandra D'Italia and Lee Kauper. The family had a private funeral and asks that any donations be made to Pappus House York PA or the Smithsonian Institute. A memorial for family and friends will be held in Pittsburgh at a later time.
