Age 87, of Mt. Lebanon passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, May 12, 2021. Son of the late Alvene and Nellie Scott Litzenberger. Beloved husband for 54 years of Barbara Hardie Litzenberger; devoted father of Dr. Christa Litzenberger (Patrick Stearns); loving grandfather of Laila and Linnea Stearns; brother of the late Kathryn “Kay” Merge (the late George), the late William Litzenberger (June, surviving) and the late Joel Litzenberger. John served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a longtime corporate pilot and worked for Koppers, Inc., Richard Mellon Scaife and H.J. Heinz Company. Prior to becoming a pilot, John was a licensed airplane engineer. One of John's greatest joys was owning the Flying Diamond Ranch in Encampment, Wyoming and working on it when it was a 2500 acre working cattle ranch. He loved ranching and was an expert rider and wrangler (steer roper). His family bought the property in the 1950's and he left his heart there when he was forced to sell it in the 1990's. Friends will be received at Laughlin Cremation and Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon on Friday, May 21, 2021 from 11:00 am until 12:00 Noon. Private interment will follow in Richland Cemetery, Dravosburg, PA. The family requests NO FLOWERS, please. If desired a contribution in John’s name may be made to charity of your choice.
