Obituary

John Frederick “Fred” Wagner, age 94, of Upper St. Clair, passed away on March 1, 2023.

He was born on October 30, 1928, in Altoona, PA and was the son of the late Chester and Clara (Onkst) Wagner. Fred was married to the love of his life Dorothy Johnson Wagner for 68 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Rebecca (David) Madera; granddaughter Allyson (TJ) Wolfenden; and grandson David Madera, all of Florida. He was proceeded in death by his sister Ruth Wagner.

Fred retired from John Hancock as a district office supervisor. He was a church organist and choir director and served many churches in the area. He was also a member of the American Guild of Organists. Fred was a longtime member of Southminster Presbyterian Church where he was a Deacon and involved with many aspects of the music program. He was also in the Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War as a Chaplains’ Assistant.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to the music department at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 799 Washington Road Pittsburgh, PA 15228.
