Joseph Dressel Obituary

Age 99, of Mt. Lebanon, formerly of Scott Township and originally from Dormont, PA; passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

Beloved husband of 66 years to the late Irene (Piatak) Dressel; devoted father of Regina (Dennis) Stover, Gregory (Denise) Dressel, Carol Anne (Kevin) Rieg, Mary Jo Dressel, and Joseph (Helen) Dressel; loving grandfather of Kevin Rieg and fiancé Nicole Centi and Lila Dressel; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Joe served with distinction as a Private First Class in the Army during WWII. Following his honorable discharge, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Duquesne University and a master’s degree in taxation from Robert Morris University. Joe went on to build a respected career with the U.S. Treasury’s Internal Revenue Service, retiring in 1980. Driven by his commitment to his field, he continued in private practice as a CPA until his second retirement in 2012.

Joe was deeply loved by his family. His sharp mind and quiet, generous nature made him a pillar of support to all around him. He had a passion for history, especially the Civil War, and spent countless hours reading and visiting battlefields. Joe also loved cruising and treasured the many adventures he shared with his family.

Family and friends welcome Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Our Lady of Grace Church, St. Michael the Archangel Parish, 310 Kane Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15243, at 10:00 a.m., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment to follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray, PA. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Seraphic Mass Association of Pittsburgh, 5217 Butler Street, Suite 100, Pittsburgh, PA 15201, or charitable donations to the Veterans Breakfast Club, 200 Magnolia Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15228.
