Josephine Nickoloff Obituary

Josephine Nickoloff, of Dormont, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the age of 101.

Daughter of the late Josef and Matilda Meissner; wife of the late Nickola Nickoloff; mother of John N. (Roseann) Nickoloff and Johanna (Anthony) Sperandeo; grandmother “Oma” of Nicole Nickoloff, Brandy (Jon) Erbelding, Patricia (John Eriksen) Nickoloff, Anthony (Alysa) Sperandeo, and Nicolas (Mara Haley) Sperandeo; great-grandmother “Oma” of Madeline Erbelding, Jon Erbelding Jr., and Bella Sperandeo; sister of Hildagard Hoffmann, Hilaria Zimmer, and the late Alfred Meissner, Rita Noeth, and Erna Meissner; her dear cousin the late Lorette Sartory. Also survived by many nieces and nephews in the United States and abroad.

Josephine was born in the small Bavarian town of Ebenhausen and raised in Germany, where she dreamt of living in America. In 1950 her dream finally became a reality, and she held great pride in her new homeland. Her entire family is eternally grateful for the sacrifices Josephine and her husband Nickola made in moving to a foreign land for the betterment of their future. It almost seems fitting that she passed away on the 4th of July, a day that embodies the freedom and opportunities she cherished.

Always a busy woman, Josephine found joy in baking, gardening, knitting, sewing and spending time with her family. Josephine was a devote Catholic and a longtime member of St. Bernard Church. She was strong and quiet but determined in everything she did.

Friends received on Tuesday, July 9 from 6-8pm at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Rd. Pittsburgh, PA 15216. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 10 at 10am at St. Michael the Archangel Parish, St. Bernard Church, 311 Washington Rd. Pittsburgh, PA 15216. Entombment to follow in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.
